H.K.’s interest in watercolor painting started during our family’s 33-day trip through mainland China in 1975. While visiting the Kweilin Mountains, he became entranced with their beautiful formations. With his felt pen, he created a stack full of sketches of the scenery. My dad’s artistic talent had been evident at an early age in two pencil sketches of farmworkers he drew in grade school. He received high marks for those drawings. My dad liked to doodle on scrap paper or cardboard and make sketches or drawings with a ballpoint pen or felt marker. To get a watercolor effect, he would wet the marker or dab the drawing with water or tea.
